Community Consultation in the Planning and Development Process: A Guide For Edmonton

This guide is unique in that those stakeholders that are often in conflict with each other over planning and development issues (developers and communities) have collaborated on the production of a guide that speaks to everyone in the planning and development process. In addition to providing a very basic outline of Edmonton’s planning process in plain, everyday language, it also discusses roles and expectations for all stakeholders and includes information, tools, resources, and encouragement to enhance the consultation process.

The guide is the culmination of two years of hard work by the volunteer steering committee which includes representatives from Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL), City of Edmonton’s Planning and Development Department, City of Edmonton’s Transportation and Streets Department, Urban Development Institute, Edmonton Real Estate Board, Edmonton Region Home Builders’ Association, Manasc Isaac Architects, and Gray Scott Consulting Group Inc. The Guide was written by Anna Bubel, Miranda Ringma, and Heidi Veluw.

This project was made possible by the generous funding from the Alberta Lottery Fund’s Community Initiatives Program and the Alberta Real Estate Foundation.
