The City’s Planning and Development Department is considering modifications to parking requirements for multi-residential units near transit facilities. An updated version of the proposed Draft Amendment to Zoning Bylaw 12800 is available on EFCL’s website under Planning Matters- Civic Documents .
The amendment proposes to reduce minimum parking requirements and introduce maximum parking standards (outside of the Downtown area) for proposed Apartment Housing, Row Housing and Stacked Row Housing developments that are located within 400m of an existing or future LRT station, within 400m of a Transit Centre or within 100m of a Transit Avenue. The proposal is aligned with the City’s strategic objectives to create a more compact urban form and encourage alternate modes of transportation.
In order to accommodate further consultation with community and industry stakeholders, the public hearing before city council will be held on June 20, 2011.
In addition, community league representatives are invited join EFCL and city representatives at an information session in mid-April on the proposed amendment. Please RSVP by March 31st to Joan Hearn, Planner, Zoning Bylaw Unit, at joan.hearn@edmonton.ca or (780) 944-0222 if you are interested in taking part.
