After over a decade of negotiation, February 17th was the historic day that the City adopted a policy governing developments on the top of our river and ravine valleys. This policy greatly improves public access. Edmonton now has a policy which requires all new developments, including large infill developments, to provide a walkway within a minimum 10 to 15 m natural area on top of the bank. The policy includes EFCL’s request for mandatory access to the walkway every 120 m (approximately one block). At least 30% of the top of bank area is to have an adjacent roadway.
