The EFCL has recently adopted a policy position Affordable Housing Positionwhich will guide EFCL’s participation in a variety of housing task groups, committees and policy initiatives.
The EFCL position emphasizes the integration of diverse types of affordable housing throughout all communities in Edmonton. EFCL believes affordable housing units should be part of mixed income housing and communities, be close to transit, include green recreation space usable for all ages, reduce utility costs, encourage long-term residency and be architecturally appealing. A variety of housing models should be used that allow for ownership, rental, non-equity co-operatives, and other models.
