Proposed Heartland Transmission Project
The Heartland Project Team would like to provide your community with information on the Proposed Heartland Transmission Project and receive your community's feedback.
The proposed Heartland Transmission Project (the Project) involves the construction of a high voltage transmission line, which will connect the Heartland region (northeast of Fort Saskatchewan) to existing transmission facilities either west of Edmonton or in southern Edmonton. AltaLink and EPCOR, the Heartland Project Team, are working together in the project’s development.
The project is the result of planning by the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), Alberta’s independent, not-for-profit transmission system planner. The AESO has forecast a major increase in the demand for electricity in the Heartland region due to residential, commercial and industrial growth.
The project has launched the next phase of public consultation, which includes door-to-door visits, information centres and open houses. This next phase of consultation presents stakeholders with additional opportunities to provide further input to the project team.
Below is a direct link to the April 2009 Heartland Transmission Project information package located on the Heartland Transmission Project’s website (www.heartlandtransmission.ca):
The April newsletter included in the project package provides stakeholders with technical information about the project, a summary of project activities, scheduling information and a discussion of the next steps. In addition to the newsletter, the landowner package contains:
- An Overview Study Area Map that shows the four potential route paths currently being reviewed for the project team’s application for the construction of one transmission line;
- Detailed maps which are referenced in the newsletter. The Capital Region has 21 detailed maps in total; the maps provide further details of the route locations in relation to stakeholders’ property ;
- An Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) booklet, that provides details on the AUC application process and how the public can become involved;
- A summary of Heartland Transmission Project considerations and how they may apply if the project is approved; and
- Two sample consultation forms; one for all stakeholders and one that is land specific (rural focus).
Copies of the landowner package are being distributed to communities near the potential route locations beginning April 20, 2009. If you did not receive a copy and would like one, please provide your mailing information by calling 1-888-441-7192 or send an e-mail request to publicconsultation@heartlandtransmission.ca.
If you would like members of the project team to present to your Community please contact Bauni Mackay at (780) 412-3413 or bxmackay@epcor.ca to arrange a date and time.
Thank you.
