We have seen a number of leagues start a successful Skate Loaner Program at their rinks and it has definitely improved the usage. Essentially, a skate storage area is created where skates are stored by size. Kids come and sign out the skates. That simple and we can get you the skates!
Our partner association, Sport Central www.sportcentral.org , has a few options for you. They have enough skates now to outfit 6 to 10 leagues with 30 pairs of varied sizes of skates and if available hockey equipment. They have a few dates where they can bring a mobile van to your League Event and collect donations and outfit kids with equipment. Send an email to Bill.Whitefield @ sportcentral.org
And finally, with a League Intro Letter referral and request form (samples below), Leagues can send children to get their own skates to keep and trade in when they outgrow them.
Be sure not to miss this opportunity to help kids get skates and if you know of anyone with extra skates be sure to tell them where to donate them!

A couple of management tips:
- Leagues could write the names of the frequent attenders on the skates or lend them out for the whole season
- Leagues could give the skates away to frequent attenders
- For kids whose parents can't afford community memberships you can have them work off their rental by organizing the skates
- Keep a can of odor eater spray on hand!
