Anyone who lived in Edmonton last winter knows we were faced with tremendous challenges related to the amount of snow we received.
Following a detailed operational analysis and peer review of our procedures, the snow policy has been updated and new equipment purchased to improve residential service. A seasonal parking ban has been created (to be called as conditions require) to help get roads cleared faster, and important changes have been made to the way we communicate with citizens about winter road maintenance activities.
While news releases and web updates will still be used to inform residents about what is taking place in regards to parking bans and residential service, an number of new tools have been put in place that will get the information to citizens even more quickly and efficiently.
Posts regarding parking bans and residential snow maintenance will now appear regularly on the City of Edmonton’s Facebook page . Www.facebook.com/City of Edmonton and through its Twitter account (@CityofEdmonton). In addition, the city has created a new email notification system. By signing up to this free and confidential service, Edmontonians can subscribe and receive alerts to an email address of their choice about one or all of the following:
Winter Parking Ban
Residential Snow Maintenance
Spring Street Cleaning
The best way to prepare for the coming winter is to stay informed about what is taking place. The City encourages everyone to visit the Winter Roads page for general information, check out Facebook and Twitter, sign up for the email notifications and make use of the interactive residential schedule to make sure that you are in the know about snow this season!
