The City of Edmonton has been asked to create a discount package for leagues that want to cover the admission fee for their members at any indoor pool, during public swim times.
The request was made by a group of league and area council representatives at a pool-booking meeting hosted by the city and the EFCL on June 16.
The city is in the process of reviewing its pool booking procedures in an attempt to ensure that all times are well used. It would also like to reduce its administrative costs, which sometimes cost more than the rental income when a variety of leagues share a swim time and have to be billed individually.
Those in attendance were told that the city’s new allocation model would give leagues first crack at their existing swim times. If they wanted additional time, the leagues would need to inform the EFCL, which would take their request to a pool user committee meeting. The time may or may not become available, as all times are currently spoken for, the group was told.
The city said it would be able to provide the leagues with a new rate structure for group bookings in about three weeks time.
A meeting was set for 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, at the EFCL office, to review the city’s proposal and discuss any other issues the leagues want to raise.
