Hockey Registrars to sell a Corporate Rated Community League Membership
By admin @ 1:19 PM :: 739 Views :: 5 Comments :: :: Community Programs & Activities, Sports Programs

The Edmonton Minor Hockey Association and Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues came up with a new system to facilitate the sales of Community League memberships during hockey registration.  The objective is to eliminate all the work that the registrars have had to do for these many years and ease the strain for their volunteers.  They still support the community leagues and want to ask for a membership as part of their process.  So together we developed a new streamlined system.

On April 19, 2010 the General Membership ( 49 leagues in attendance) for the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues voted in favour of the recommendation:
“That the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association be granted the right to sell $25 “corporate rate” family Community League Memberships to all of its minor hockey players, during hockey registrations.”

DEFINITION:  Corporate Rate Family Membership
The corporate rate family membership is a special standardized rate of $25 for any Community League Family Membership when sold through the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association.  This rate is available only to Hockey Registrants. The fee amount was based on the average fee for Community League Memberships across the city.

For public buying memberships through hockey, please note the leagues will receive your purchase information and arrange for the distribution of your membership cards.  The effective date of cards is August 31, 2010.  If you have not received your card at this date please contact your league and not the hockey registrar.  Some hockey registrars have described the fee as "to be used toward a community league membership".  Some leagues with higher fees hope that upstanding members will contribute the difference.

Since this was voted on and passed at an Annual General Meeting of the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues the corporate rate for hockey shall be accepted.

 Should anyone have additional concerns or questions, or need assistance in contacting your league please contact us.  Communications@efcl.org or call Valerie at 780-437-2913.

COMMUNITY LEAGUE BOARD MEMBERS:  Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL) sent an email and mailed to halls this membership sales process for the 2010 – 2011 year.  We have posted a summary of the process. It is our intention to review this process and work on any problems that may arise.  Both EMHA and EFCL recognize it may take a few years to get the process running smoothly.

This has been happening for a few years now in some zones. However we (Community Leagues) do not always get the membership information and have no idea of there EFCL # when it comes to Spring Registration, including the money for memberships has not been transfered.

The EFCL's agenda item for this was vague and unclear. This should not be called a "membership". It should be called a deposit for hockey registration because it is not a membership for a community league but rather an easier method for EMHA to streamline a very difficult process.

Hello. Except in the case of a card being incorrectly filled out or cheques being received at EFCL stale dated, we have forwarded membership cards to leagues and on a regular schedule cheques. The volume of administration was also a burden for EFCL. The new process shifts a lot of the onus of membership administration back to the leagues where it belongs. Please call or email Valerie at EFCL if you need further background information or have concerns. 780-437-2913 or communications@efcl.org

Hello, with respect of forwarding the information of mebership to the Leagues, I disagree. We have had people who registered at KC Hockey who have receipts for membership paid, who live in our neighborhood and they have not been sent a card and we have not been notified. This has happened 2 years in a row now. Don't also forget that Fall is our blitz month and memberships are usually less than 25$
