Local Motion! - Tell us why your community should be the EcoMobility Project Host Community!
It is with great excitement that we are taking the first steps towards creating a unique EcoMobility project in June of 2009. We are looking for your help in getting the word out. The City of Edmonton is looking for one community to co-host the EcoMobility pilot project in June of 2009, as part of the ICLEI World Congress (Local Governments For Sustainability) in Edmonton. During this one-month project we will work with an existing neighbourhood, and transform it into a place where a variety of elements of EcoMobility are brought together in a functioning system. This may include: special events, workshops, programs, free bus passes, “community bikes”, temporary physical changes (such as adding bike lanes). Citizens will be involved from early on in the actual design of what this event will look like. This project will allow residents to experience a variety of eco-friendly mobility/travel options in their own neighbourhood.
What is EcoMobility you ask…..?
Eco-mobility encourages a shift to more sustainable travel behaviours. The Global Alliance for EcoMobility describes eco-mobility as mobility without dependency on the private car. It includes:
walking-cycling-wheeling: non-motorized means of transport such as feet, bicycle, tricycle, wheelchair, walking aids, scooter, skates, skateboard, push scooter, trailer, hand cart, shopping cart, carrying aids;
‘passenging’: using means of public transport such as bus, tram, subway, light rail, train, ferry; collective taxi, taxi (preferably with low-emission drives) and above vehicles with supporting electrical drive (preferably powered by renewable energy)
I have included a copy of the Local Motion information page and expression of interest. It would be great if this could be added to the EFCL web-site. It has also been sent to all CRC's.
The application deadline is November 21st, 2008.
