City Ready to Chip in Another $60,000
The EFCL has just learned that the City of Edmonton is ready to provide another $60,000 for community league infrastructure assessments.
The money will be used to launch a second phase of the program.
“We see it as a vote of confidence – that things have been going quite well with the first phase of the program,” noted EFCL executive director Allan Bolstad.
“The new money will open the door for another group of leagues.”
A total of 15 community leagues signed up for Phase I of the program, where consultant A.D. Williams was hired to do a structural assessment and energy audit of their league’s hall.
So far, five audits have been completed, with three more scheduled to take place in September. Seven other leagues are waiting to hear back from the province about their application for Community Initiative Program funding.
“The biggest bang for the buck (in terms of identified savings) has been in lighting fixtures, fawcetts, water tanks…that sort of the thing,’’ noted project manager Marius Veldtman of MHMP Project Managers Inc.
“Some buildings could really use new windows or a better roof, but those are more expensive items that a league would need to budget some time in advance.”
In case, the audit identified structural problems that require a significant geotechnical analysis. This was beyond the scope of the initial assessment but is something that is being considered in Phase II of the program.
“The last thing we want to do is leave community leagues wondering about the state of their building,” Boltad noted.
“It is our hope to set aside some funds in Phase II to help leagues that need a more detailed analysis of their building’s condition.”
It is the EFCL’s intention to announce the details of Phase II at the Oct.ober Regular General Meeting.
