EFCL to Sell Community League Memberships Online

Online purchase of Community League memberships will be available in May 2009 on efcl.org.   The process is simple and straight forward and the final chosen format arose out of consultation with the various groups involved and consideration of all of the concerns.

Representatives of league presidents, treasurers, and membership directors, sports registrars, and EFCL administration brought to attention the main issues. The first concern was that leagues would lose contact with their members. Note that this process does not issue the actual membership and therefore does not eliminate the need for contact with the community league. The process as outlined below, indicates that either the league must contact their new member or vice versa before any card is issued.   In fact, this is a perfect opportunity to reach out to new members and invite them to a league event or meeting or to find out their assets for volunteering.

Registrars and community leagues pointed out that historically during the sports registration process some folks chose a cheaper league, or one they prefer to belong to rather than their home league. We require a postal code to proceed to the payment page. If they have incorrectly entered a wrong postal code that does not match their home address, they will be found out before the card is issued, provided the league asks for identification. Alerts will be noted on a list to sports associations and leagues to prevent repetition and will be asked to register in person with their league in the future. We may choose to block this person from the online system.

Some leagues expressed concern that their own process of membership campaign will become complicated by the fact that members will already have purchased memberships. All leagues receive notifications as each membership is purchased, and a summary of all purchases can be provided at the start of the campaign or as requested.

We were forced to address the issues facing registrars (see previous articles online and in newsletters) and to alleviate the immense workload that our administrative staff incurred as a result of sports registrations.   EFCL is providing a technology solution and we will work through opening season glitches for what we hope to see a vast improvement over existing processes.

The summary of the online purchase procedure can be found in EFCL Services

The concept of online membership purchases is fine only if the community league is notified immediately. This is not happening as our community league received a cheque for an online membership purchase and have no idea who made the purchase. Our membership campaign started at the beginning of September and we received the cheque from the EFCL on October 19. We have activities that require a community league membership and this family will not have a membership card.
