Massage Parlours to be Better Regulated
By Valerie @ 9:00 AM :: 254 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Planning Matters - Civic Affairs, EFCL News, City of Edmonton News

In 2012, City Council will be considering new bylaw regulations for non-medical massage parlours, or rather, Body Rub Centres.  EFCL’s Community Sustainability Task Force Report highlights the need to limit the proliferation of predatory businesses, such as massage parlours, in mature neighbourhoods thus the EFCL Planning Committee has begun discussions with City Administration and other stakeholders in this regard.

The Committee is considering requesting community consultation for all Body Rub Centre development permit applications.  The Committee is also considering a required separation of Body Rub Centres from  parks, schools and child care centres.  The Committee supports prohibiting Body Rub Centres from residential sites and the first floor of other sites, particularly sites on retail streets.

What regulations do you suggest?  Contact Bev.Zubot@efcl.org and Kristen.elkow@edmonton.ca.
