New Residents Targeted: Leagues Asked to Provide Free Memberships
By admin @ 4:59 PM :: 1402 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: EFCL News, E-News - Currents & Updates

 The EFCL is encouraging all of its member leagues to provide a free, one-year membership to any new resident of their community.

Several leagues around the city have reported that it works well, noting that it helps welcome new members, provide additional volunteers and generate future board members.
The EFCL has also held discussions with partner organizations that are ready to help implement this program, such as the Realtors Association of Edmonton, Welcome Wagon and the Edmonton Apartment Association. Each of these groups has offered to help identify new arrivals in the neighborhood and pass along free membership coupons.
Feedback from surveys the EFCL conducted with Banister Research indicate that recruitment and retention of new volunteers and members is a top priority for community leagues.  The EFCL believes that the provision of free memberships to new residents could be one way to access new members and create a family of life-long volunteers.
The EFCL recognizes that it will be hard for new leagues to offer this incentive, particularly those in their first year of operation. Consequently the program may only take effect after a league has been in business for a few years.
The EFCL will be soliciting feedback from its members on this issue over the coming months. The idea will also be discussed at the April 19 Annual General Meeting.
