Boyle Renaissance Project Under Review
By host @ 4:13 PM :: 3413 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Planning Matters - Civic Affairs, EFCL News, City of Edmonton News

The City of Edmonton is working with Boyle Street Community League, the YMCA and the Inner City Youth Development Association (ICYDA) on a major redevelopment of the community league hall and park site at 104 Avenue and 95 Street.
Plans call for the construction of a new YMCA residence (replacing the existing building at 10030-102 A Avenue) and a new building for an inner city high school, run by ICYDA with funding from the Edmonton Oilers Foundation.
The community league has been presented with a couple of options, including attaching their building to the new facilities or turning over control of their building to the city, which would in turn incorporate it into the new complex and offer space on a lease basis back to the league.
The league has also been asked to consider its need for green space, including the nearby community garden as part of a new license agreement with the city.
“It’s a very interesting proposal,’’ noted EFCL executive director Allan Bolstad, who has been asked to sit in on the discussions.
“It could also set quite a precedent, prompting other leagues to turn their building over to the city in return for a long-term lease on a portion of the space.”
The community plans to hold a meeting in June to present the proposal to its membership. It hopes to strike a committee to review it over the summer and make a recommendation to the membership in the fall.
