CPTED – Basic Course

DATE:    February 14 & 15, 2012

TIME:     8:30 a.m. –  4:30 p.m.

LOCATION:    Alberta Motor Association (AMA)
    Kingsway Centre

    Edmonton, Alberta

CPTED Basic is a two-day course developed to introduce CPTED principals. This course focuses on reducing crime opportunities by modifying the environment. Students will be introduced to how the physical environment can have a direct relationship on human behaviour.  Instruction will be from a combination of Edmonton Police officers working in this field and additional subject matter experts in various aspects of CPTED.

This course is open to law enforcement officers (peace officers, by-law), city planners, architects, private security managers, both private sector and government property managers, and other members of the community who are interested in crime prevention and reduction.

Topics covered will include:
•    Crime and Crime Prevention Theories
•    First Generation CPTED concepts and strategies
•    Target Hardening
•    Graffiti
•    Colour and Lighting
•    CPTED in application
•    Writing basic CPTED reports
 
The AMA Kingsway Centre is located in central Edmonton, and there are many amenities in the area for students and out-of-town guests.  Lunch is not provided, but coffee, tea and juice and refreshments are available at no cost.

There is ample free parking at this location in the parkade.

NOTE:  A 4-day CPTED Advanced course is scheduled for the fall of 2012.  First priority will be given to recent students of the CPTED Basic course.  CPTED Basic is considered a pre-requisite for the CPTED Advanced course.
