Ladies will lead the Knights, Squires and Men-at-Arms with chains to the field in period style. Before the tournament begins Father Charles Bidwell will bless the fighters with a historical prayer. Marshall Sir Douglas of Wentworth then receives a pledge from all of the knights to fight with honour and chivalry.
The combatants will be clad in historical plate, leather and mail armour from the 14th century as they meet in combat with axes, daggers, flails, lances, maces, pole hammers, shields, spears, swords, and warhammers. They will agree to match weapons with five or three clear hits, a yield is met, a weapon is lost, or as otherwise agreed to in period manner.
Our Ladies will judge the fighters based on chivalry, honour and skill at arms with prizes from local sponsors. There are also prizes for best historical costumes for men, women and children. The Queen of the Tournament will award prizes at 4:45 pm.
Dancer performances are featured by Nomadic Tapestry belly dancers.
The Family Field will include the hands on games of Jousting, Hunker Down, and Little John, as well as medieval board games with Lady Jeannette Dunnett. There is also face painting and the pillaries (stocks) for troublesome citizens.
We greatly welcome the participation of local merchants in our Medieval Market. With their involvement and support we are able to provide this event for free to the public. Goods will be on sale from Askembla Sewing, Green Serene, Master Ark's, Master Johanus Haidner, Master Mike Hyslop, Quantum Comics & Collectibles, Sacred Grove, Solas Candles, Usborne Books, and White Brahma Creations.
