Parkallen Diggers - Parkallen's Community Garden team launches their blog

Queen Mary Park continues their Go Green Sustainability Series

A President of a Community League that signed up for the Green Challenge said "I'm not a tree hugger at all.  But when project porchlight was introduced and I found out that if every household in Canada changed their porch light to an energy efficient lightbulb it was equivalent to getting 66,000 cars off the road, it was a no brainer to pay a little more for my lightbulbs!  One league member, Reymund Palpal-latoc of Central McDougall, stood in his apartment foyer and distributed 400 energy efficient bulbs!  Wow. Changing to CFC lightbulbs is a first babystep.

The real commitment is in continuing programming and education at a community level to spread the word.  Westmount Community League has hosted educational Video Series & Discussion Groups, worked with the Jim Diers Neighbourhood program to cooperate with their local school on a community garden, and become a leading example of the Transition Network.  Parkallen and Grow Forward Grovenor  have led the way with unprecedented educational programs, cooperation with Operation Fruit Rescue and have found the league revitalized with new blood because of the interest living a simpler greener local life can generate in the community!  Sustainability Directors have popped up in Queen Mary Park, Riverdale, Glenora and word is spreading. Leagues are planning resilient halls and 43 have signed up for the Green Challenge to commit to a lower carbon footprint.  Let us know your league's Sustainability Director or join your league and take on this role. Ottewell, Parkallen, Grovenor, and Southwood all have been awarded their part in the prizes offered by CO2RE - $5000 !
