LEVERAGING PURCHASE POWER WITH A FINANCIAL SERVICE PROVIDER

The Map of 40 km Speed Limits around the City has been released

The EFCL, the City of Edmonton, and the Community Leagues  involved will then meet to discuss the program implementation in Ottewell, Twin Brooks, King Edward Park, Beverly Heights, Woodcroft, and King Edward Park.  The City has released maps of the exact streets impacted and these streets will see reduced speed limits of 40 km/hr by the implementation date of May 1.  Lighten up on the gas pedal!

Green Challenge Presents the Great Green Community Minds

Save this date: March 19, doors open 6:30 pm so please join us at Montrose Hall, 5920 - 119 Avenue, for an action packed information evening.  7:15 to 8:15 are presentations, questions after, and wine and cheese before and after. FREE EVENT Open to the public and league members of course and be green and bring your own cup.

6 presenters giving 20 slides each in 10 minutes for a full hour of the highlights of their projects.   We are still finalizing the participant list – check online shortly for completed agenda but subject matter includes the following and it is going to be hard to pick just six!!

New Centralized Booking Procedure for Recreation and Program Facilities

The City has brought all the facility booking staff into one Facility Booking Unit. This includes staff that book the major facility groupings in and around our Multi-Purpose Recreation Centers (Arenas, Pools, Fieldhouses/Flexi-halls, Gymnasiums, and Sportsfields) together with the staff who manage the rentals/bookings in our Attractions (ex. Fort Edmonton, Muttart Conservatory, Valley Zoo)

You will want to read the “Integrated Transit and Land Use Framework” if your neighbourhood is within 800 meters of an existing or proposed LRT Station. This Framework was brought forward as information to Executive Committee of Council on November 3rd, and will be brought to Council with Zoning Bylaw amendments for consideration in 2010.   The land use changes may impact your neighbourhood long before you see an LRT station.

Opportunity for Input into Major Zoning Bylaw Changes

EFCL has offered to partner with the City in organizing public input to numerous proposed zoning bylaw changes which will be taken to City Council in early 2010.
By January 2010 the City will be prepared to give “Information Sessions” on the Residential Infill Guidelines for Mature Neighbourhoods.    EFCL has requested these information sessions be combined with an opportunity for people to have input into interpreting the Guidelines and developing new regulations to be incorporated in the Zoning Bylaw.

EFCL Joins School Sector Planning Exercise

The Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues has been invited to sit on an advisory committee that is helping the public school board determine its need for school space in various sector of the city.
The advisory committee has representatives from roughly a dozen organizations, including community leagues, the Urban Aboriginal Affairs Committee, the Edmonton Immigrant Services Association, Alberta Education and various city departments.

EFCL Objects to Reductions in Casino Revenue

 The Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues has asked the province to leave the disbursement of casino revenue alone, as changes are neither justified nor required.  In a letter to the Solicitor General Fred Lindsay, the EFCL stated that there are a number of good reasons for keeping the current system intact.

At EFCL's Regular General Meeting, the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL) and the Edmonton Immigrant Services Association (EISA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will become the backbone for a long-term partnership between the two organizations.

For some reason this seems to be the season for wheeling and dealing, as we’re hard at it on three fronts.
So far negotiations are going very well with the City of Edmonton. We’re right on track with developing a new EFCL/City of Edmonton Partnership Agreement, which defines how we work together on community league and neighborhood development matters.

Hockey Moms & Dads turned hockey registrars have remained loyal to the concept of Community by still requiring a community league membership to participate in EMHA hockey. Joining the bandwagon this year is the Knights of Columbus who procured over $10,000 in membership sales.
